Julien Topal

Julien Topal

Julien Topal (PhD) is the executive director of FFIAC. As the director he is responsible for the strategic development of the foundation and internal quality control. He coordinates the international projects (such as the Lviv-program) and engages with new partners.

Julien is an experienced trainer and adviser on issues pertaining to the integrity of government at Governance & Integrity (G&I). He trains all rungs of civil servants – from human resources and street cleaners to top-management – in moral judgment, helps develop moral learning processes within organisations and analyses integrity risks within work processes. Julien also works intensively with the political branches of government.

Before his work for G&I and FFIAC, Julien worked as an ethicist/political philosopher at William Paterson University in New Jersey, US and Maastricht University, the Netherlands. He also contributed to the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment at Columbia University, NY as a research associate.

A philosophy graduate from the University of Amsterdam, Julien holds a doctorate in social and political science from the European University Institute (EUI), Florence, Italy. In January 2014 he defended his PhD dissertation on corporate responsibilities at the EUI.

Ruud Meij

Ruud Meij

Ruud Meij is a philosopher and co-founder (along with Frans Geraedts and Leonard de Jong) of Governance & Integrity (G&I). Ruud studied cultural work in Eindhoven and philosophy in Nijmegen and Amsterdam.

Ruud is a highly experienced trainer and advisor who specializes in developing and supervising moral learning processes. In this capacity he has also helped many organizations in the (semi)public sector to develop moral charters. More recently Ruud has focused his attention on moral learning within the eduction and health care.

Within FFIAC Ruud leads the Lviv-Project along with Frans Geraedts and he supports the director in developing research projects for the foundation.

Besides his active work in the field of governmental integrity, Ruud is also a lecturer in organization theory and intervention studies at the University for Humanistics in Utrecht. He has published on a broad range of subjects such as education, health care, and his work in Lviv.

Frans Geraedts

Frans Geraedts

Frans studied philosophy and psychology at the University of Groningen. He’s a founding member (along with Ruud Meij and Leonard de Jong) of Governance & Integrity, a leading organization on governmental integrity. Frans is an often searched after for advice and training at all levels of government – national and local. Author and/or editor of a range of articles and volumes regarding integrity of government, Frans is working on a book on moral judgment and one on principles of good (political) representation. Besides his concern with integrity and democracy, Frans is an avid supporter and practitioner of the arts, using it as a means to tackle societal issues (such as the integration of immigrants).

Frans leads the Lviv-project along with Ruud Meij and is senior advisor to the director.
